Varmt Vatten

Varmt Vatten (Hot Water) is an upcoming short film, written and directed by Michael Støen and produced by Filmago with funding from Film Göteborg. Born from the tension between the profound strangeness of existence and the ordinary routines of family life, the film uses an inexplicable transformation to explore the difference between love and control, and what can happen when the parts of ourselves we keep submerged return on their own terms. The film is currently in post-production and is expected to premiere in early 2027.

AN ORIGINAL FILMAGO PRODUCTION

When a loving but timid father sinks beneath the hot, murky bathwater, he reemerges transformed into a stern old man. The new presence is both stabilizing and unsettling to his family, but as the temperature rises he risks losing everything he holds dear, and what lurks beneath the surface can no longer be ignored.
